Anatomy of Free Thought

Hilmi Ziya Ülken’s book Morality of Love was published in 1931.  Defines human as a moral being.  Ülken describes the relationship between human and morality: “The focal point of the world is human. Everything that has participated in the raw truth is the work of human. Human kind is on the other hand, is first and foremost a moral being. Moral existence means the expropriation of the individual by his actions, the opening of the part to the whole as a personality.” ”  explains with sentences.

In the work of Nurettin Topçu, which was published in French in 1934, the Ethics of Rebellion;  deals with the course of action of individuals who have matured intellectually.  Morality, which does not contradict religion, is a very important eye of conscience in making sense of existence.  An immoral individual’s interpretation of existence will be contrary to the harmony of  life. He is deprived of free thought because he has no honor of thought.  What he says white today, he can easily say black tomorrow.  Where it benefits, a bird is a camel, a camel is a bird for such people…

The basis of free thought;  It is the individual’s knowing and practicing the moral and religious basic rules.  An individual deprived of these values abuses free thought.  What they write and say is delusion, like the freedom to sin, it defends a delusion such as swearing and insulting others.

In the Renaissance understanding, while having orientation around philosophy, science and material reality , there was a distance getting away from metaphysics, human values, family ties, and worlds were established around egos.

The basis of free thought is to be ourselves, not to break with universal ethical values, and not to act in spite of conscience.  The integrity of life line determines the quality of thought.  But the real thing is an understanding of free thought that matures, is free from prejudice, can change towards the positive and can admit this change.  Otherwise, look, I haven’t changed at all!  His approach is another bigotry, a distance from free thought.

The main goal in free thought is;  to struggle, and fight so that reading, thinking, writing, and emotions are not suppressed and restricted.  To be respectful to freedoms is to ensure the free movement of thought.  Brute force and killing ideas before they are born are the biggest enemies of free thought.  Weak characters who do not respect other beliefs, ideas regard their egos as ideas and impose these ideas on others are also the biggest obstacle to free thought.  It is the most obvious characteristic of tyrants and despots, who are the arch enemies of freedom of thought, to throw all thoughts that they cannot silence into dungeons, and to take their lives if necessary.

A community can revive free thought with collective consciousness.  A community that has eluded the scholastic understanding of science, is equipped with moral and universal values, is able to synthesize the past and the future, can make sense of and interpret meaning of the existence, clear the blockages between the heart and the head, and open the way for free thought and free will, genius community can cause a human-wide birth again.  A clear goal for every nation and community that can read the spirit of the times.  On that day, free thought will rise to its true meaning and status.

In Rumi’s words, “if the simple mind of intellect does not evolve into the heavens”, even the highest logics cannot avoid falling into illogicality.
